Namaqua Kalahari Children’s Hope Inauguration

On January 20th, the Namaqua Kalahari Children’s Hope shelter was officially inaugurated in Gochas, Namibia, a building that houses 60 vulnerable children who will now be able to eat, sleep, play and study, far from the environment in which they had been suffering until now.

In 2021, the photographers and reporters association Shoot 4 Change (www.shoot4change.eu) made us aware of the problems affecting this community. After a trip in which we witnessed the situation first-hand, we decided to get involved in the project.

This building, whose construction we began in 2023, today houses 60 children in vulnerable situations. Under the direction of Theo Paulina Goliath, they finally have a home where they can eat, sleep, play and study, away from the environment in which they had been suffering until now.

Among those attending the inauguration ceremony held on January 20th were Dr. Sanet L. Steenkamp, Hon. Minister of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture of Namibia; Mr. Paulus Lewin, Director of the Hardap Region of the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture of Namibia; Ms. Emilia Celemín Redondo, Deputy Head of the Spanish Embassy in Windhoek, Namibia; Foundawtion board representatives David García, Carmen Revilla Sánchez and Lluís Morón; Pablo Gallastegui, architect in charge of the project; Theo Paulina Goliath, project promoter and current director of the centre; builder Tiaan Bindeman (Binedman Construction CC); other members of the Ministry of Education, as well as local authorities and government representatives.

This project has been made possible thanks to the effort and collaboration of many companies —such as Pikolin, Faro Barcelona, Andreu World, LedsC4, Inoxibar, S.L., Roca Group, urbidermis & Belloch Forestal and Santa & Cole— who have provided materials to furnish the building, volunteer architects who travelled to work on the construction, and individuals and committed people who have contributed in many ways to make it a reality. The architectural project is by dawoffice.

To all of them, THANK YOU!
